Area 1 Detective Division Salutes 8th District Police Officers:

C. Maida, D. Dacanay,J. Lepkowski, M. Trost, I. Roa, K. Palukaitis, J. Cortes, J. Perez, R. Turrise, D. Pacelli, P. Kane, C. Trendle, K. White

The above Sergeants and Officers became aware of numerous robberies occurring in the 8th District. Several businesses were being robbed by an armed offender. The listed personnel learned the identity of the offender by having prior contact with him and by documenting their street stops with contact cards. After a coordinated search for the offender was conducted, he was apprehended, and placed into custody without incident. The offender was subsequently charged with 8 counts of Armed Robbery. Thanks to the dedication to duty and teamwork demonstrated by these Sergeants and Officers, a habitual dangerous offender was removed from the streets.

On 10 Dec. 07, while on patrol in the area of the 6500 block of S. Oakley, the officers observed a vehicle in the alley, parked, with its lights off and the doors open, observed a male black exit from a rear/overhead garage door, get in the vehicle and drive away. The officers followed the vehicle driving past the still opened garage, observing the vehicle that was parked inside the garage had both drivers side tires missing, at which time they curbed the said vehicle, and observed a tire in the fleeing vehicle in plain view. After a field interview with the driver the officers returned to the garage and observed signs of forced entry. The officers made contact with the homeowner who confirmed the tire in the offenders vehicle was from her car. The driver was placed into custody, and a further search of the offenders vehicle resulted in additional property of the victims discovered and returned to the rightful owner. Due to the officers attention to duty and aggressiveness, the offender was charged with Burglary and Possession of Burglary Tools.

Area #5 Detectives Salute 25th District Tactical Officers

Area 5 Detective Division Salutes 25th District Tactical Officers:

J. Diaz, J. Motyka, T. Schnoor, M. Scott, C. Malenock

On 27 Nov. 07, the above officers developed vital information on a maniac disciple gang member wanted on a federal narcotics warrant. This offender had eluded capture for over a year, and was featured on Fox News as one of “Chicago’s Most Wanted”. On 29 Nov. 07, the above officers assisted Area 5 detectives in locating and arresting this subject. Due to the officers extensive knowledge of gang members in Area 5, this dangerous Federal Fugitive was brought to justice.

SPECIAL EVENTS

The Education and Training Division will be hosting a Wellness Day on 31 January 2008. Free screening will be available including: blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, bone density, foot scanning, pain assessment, muscle strength testing, BMI Index, and vision & hearing screening. A nutritionist, personal trainer, chiropractor and massage and physical therapist will be available for consultation. Attendance is open to all officers and retirees.

MEETING NOTICE

The Irish American Police Association (Emerald Society) will hold its Annual Chili Cook-Off on Monday, 14 Jan. 08, at Assumption Church, 323 W. Illinois, at 1900 hours. We encourage all members to enter their favorite chili recipe (with enough to share) which will be judged by a panel of celebrity chefs. The Chicago Police Memorial Foundation T-Shirt Drive has been extended until 16 Jan. 08. For those districts/units that have not participated yet, sample tshirt and order forms can be picked up at the TRU unit located at 1891 W. Pershing (39th & Wood) on Wednesdays from 1300-1500 hours. The t-shirt and forms will be available for pick up every Wednesday from 1300-1500 hours at the TRU Unit until 16 Jan. 08.
