Are You Aware?

No Good Deed Goes Unpunished. . . .

Gangs have long been a threat to our society.  The violence and death associated with gangs seems to grow more pervasive each day.  If you ever begin to think for one moment that gang-bangers and the "gang culture" is fading, read this:

On 23 July 2007,  in the 2700 block of W. Haddon, a 31 year old man (former gang member) saw a disturbance on the street involving a child.  The man approached the child and saw that the kid was a gangbanger.  Well, the man tried to impart a little common sense into this kid by telling him that he was too young to gang-bang, that gang-banging had no future and that it was simply a dangerous life.

Well, "junior" felt that this grown-up was picking on him, so he ran to his mother and told her what happened.  The mother then confronts the man and tells him that he should not talk to her child that way!! (WHAT??)  Then she calls some of the local gang members (because of "who she is") and they arrive to confront the man. (A true credit to "motherhood"--sarcasm INTENDED)

The victim (a FORMER gang member), is pulled from his vehicle, told he has a "violation" coming and then beaten to death on the street.

Beaten by members of his former gang because he told a child to stay away from gangs and the gang life. Beaten because he was smart enough to try and get his act together and thought maybe he could prevent a kid from going down the wrong path.

No good deed goes unpunished.  But, the story doesn't end there.

Area 4 Detectives continued their investigation and took five offenders (two 16 yr-olds,  two 19 yr-olds an one 23 yr-old) into custody and charged them with murder.  The sixth alleged offender was in custody for an unrelated offense--no surprise there--charges pending.

A man's life was taken in a most brutal way. . . by kids.  All of this happened because he tried to keep a child OUT of the gang life.

I have another saying for the murderers of this man:  "You reap what you sow".

Their freedom is now lost and hopefully they will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

The involved investigators should be commended for their work.  Thanks for taking these criminals off the streets and bringing justice for someone who died for trying to do the right thing.

Stay safe.
